Preparing for Laser
You are being prepared for skin resurfacing.
The following steps in the preparation are very
important and have to be followed.

use the following:

day to start 1 day before the procedure Zovirax
400 mg 3 times a day 1 day before the procedure.
Things to buy to keep at home
- Ointment - Bactrin
- Polyspan
- Dressing - Flexan
- Tape
- Ice-Master - buy from chemist
- White cotton gloves to wear at night so you
don’t scratch at your face with long fingernails.
On the Morning of the Procedure
Wash face with soap and water.
Do not eat or drink anything from midnight.
You must have someone to drive you home as you
have been given medication.
Post Operative Care
Healing time after treatment is approximately
10 -14 days. During this time your skin will be
raw and sensitive. It is advisable not to look
in the mirror during this time.
When you get home:
- Take antibiotics (Keflex) one capsule four
times daily.
- Take Prednisolone 4 capsules (together) daily
for five days.
- Sleep on four pillows to reduce the swelling.
Take Panadeine Forte for pain if necessary 1
or 2 tablets every four hours.
- Use Burrow’s compresses on areas that
are not covered by dressing.
- Do not remove any dressings.
- Take Zovirax daily till healing is complete.
- Take Valium to help you sleep, 1 or 2 tablets
at night.
Next Day:
- Swelling may occur initially, this will subside
as the day goes on.
- Take Keflex, Zovirax and Prednisolone, as
above.
- Use Burrow’s compresses on the areas
that do not have dressings.
- Go back to the surgery to have your dressing
changed (take 1 to 2 Panadeine Forte 1/2 hour
before the dressing is changed).
This procedure will continue until healing has
occurred. You may wash your hair, shower and go
back to your normal routine as long as it is comfortable.
Do not stay in bed all the time.
As healing begins to occur your skin will be red
and you will need to apply a cortisone cream such
as Ergocort twice daily to reduce redness.
An ultraviolet A sunscreen will need to be used
such as the Ego Sunsense Toddler Milk or Clinique
City Block.
To cover the redness and provide a complete sunscreen
protection a heavy makeup may be necessary. The
foundation in the Skintech range is designed specifically
for this purpose.
Sun Exposure must be avoided at all costs for
three months after the laser resurfacing.
